Interview at Camping Platja Vilanova

This month we present to you a historic and pioneering campsite in the province of Barcelona, the Càmping Platja Vilanova, which began its activity in June 1982 with Antonio Sánchez Gálvez at its head, leading the project. Below, our friend Antonio answers some questions to get us a little closer to the reality of the Camping Platja Vilanova.

Question: How and when was your campsite opened? Who currently manages it?

Answer: Initially, a small area of 2.5 hectares was opened with a bar, a small supermarket and 2 health groups. Later, successive expansions were made until the current 6 hectares, the swimming pool, new supermarket, sports area, expansion of the bar-restaurant, 2 more health groups, solar panels for sanitary water and bungalows.
In 1989 it became a Public Company, but always managed by the same family.

Q: What would you highlight as the essence of your campsite? What makes you unique and special?

A: The essence of Camping Platja Vilanova is that it has always been very family-friendly, both in terms of management and in dealing with customers.

Q: What type of customer visits you the most?

R: The origin of our clients is mostly Catalan, although in the summer we also receive many from the rest of Spain and Europe.

Q: What improvement or project makes you most proud?

A: We are especially proud of our latest projects: new bungalows, children’s pool and photovoltaic energy panels.

Q: A special memory or fond moment from the campsite’s history

R: A touching moment for us in the history of the campsite has been the handover of management from Mr. Antonio Sánchez, after his retirement, to his children. Following the essence of a family business.

Q: If you had to recommend an experience near the campsite, what would it be?

A: If we had to recommend experiences close to the campsite, they would be water sports in Vilanova, winemaking in the Penedès and the tranquility of the beaches close to the campsite.

Q: What challenge do you consider to be the most important for the camping sector at the moment?

R: We believe that the most important challenge for the camping sector is adapting to climate change and its threats. We are committed to renewable energy with the implementation of solar panels and the use of electric vehicles.

Q: If you had to define your campsite in 3 words, what would they be?

A: If we had to define our campsite in a few words, we would say that it is a very family campsite.
